Part of an interview with Chris Smith here in which he talks about Black Death :
Christopher Smith has revealed details of his upcoming movie
Black Death, which has recently finished filming.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the Triangle and Severance director described the
project as "a medieval 'guys on a mission' movie where Sean [Bean] and a
group of knights ride into this village during the bubonic plague to find out
why this one village has been spared the plague."
"There are rumours that there’s a necromancer there who has a deal with
the Devil," he continued. "It's all about how medieval people think.
It's all very real. It's not supernatural, but you think it is."
Smith, whose first foray into the horror genre was the acclaimed Creep, added
that Black Death "should be coming into the cinemas in either February or
October. There's basically a window [the studio] want to hit to keep it in the
winter."

With all of
the remakes, reboots and absurd movie ideas spewing forth from
Black Death

Not a bad
story, right? There are not a lot of powerhouse names attached to this project
but that doesn't mean the project is lacking in the talent department. Some may
recognize the names of director Christopher Smith from his work on horror/comedy
Severance (a movie I would highly recommend), and writer Dario Poloni who wrote
the original screenplay. Poloni also wrote the action/horror film Wilderness
(yet another movie I would highly recommend).
Sean Bean
is joined Eddie Remayne (Osmund), Carice van Houten (Langvia), and Kimberley
Nixon (Averill). Bean is probably best known worldwide for his performance as
Boromir in Lord of the Ring: Fellowship of the Ring, while Redmayne's latest
role was playing the boyfriend of Jessica 'Show My Breasts to Further My Career'
Filming for
Black Death began late 2008 on location at Ukranenland in
There has been no trailer released for Black Death but when there is, we will be sure to post it. In the mean time enjoy these pictures from the movie.

Blankenburg - Hollywood-Schauspieler Sean Bean hat während
der Dreharbeiten zum Kinofilm "Black Death" (deutsch: Der Schwarze

Schlösser und Burgen in der Gegend kennenlernen. Sie sind sehr
faszinierend." Bean, der schon in "Herr der Ringe" mitspielte,

- As scenery for the film are used the castles of Querfurt and Arnstein, and the Castle Blankenburg.
Apart from Sean Bean as knight Ulric and Carice van Houten as his antagonist and seductress are also shooting Eddie Redmayne as friar Osmund and Kimberly Nixon as his secret love Averill in Germany.
"Violence, chaos and the superstitiousness that god punishes the people with the black death are dominating," is said in a press release to the beginning of the film shooting of Black Death.
All people? No! One village is spared from Black Death, what makes the catholic church believe that there must be the devil involved.
Ulric, Osmond and their companions are on their way to this mysterious village.
A group of knights under the leadership of Ulric (Sean Bean) shall find and conquer the evil.
As it becomes clear why the village is spared from black death, Ulric and Osmund have to make up their minds: whether they decide to fight for god or for the secret love alternatively the seductress.
The movie is directed by Christopher Smith, the script was written by Dario Poloni.
So we can be curious. The first picture looks promising, hopefully the movie goes not into the direction of cheap fantasy. In the year 2010 "Black Death" is supposed to be shown in cinema. -

Medieval England has fallen under the shadow of the Black Death. In this apocalyptic world, filled with fear and superstition, a young monk called Osmund is charged in leading a fearsome knight, Ulric and his group of mercenaries to a remote marsh. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer - someone able to bring the dead back to life. Torn between his love of God and the love of a young woman, Osmund discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva. After Langiva reveals her Satanic identity and offers Osmund his hearts desire, the horror of his real journey begins.

Feb 2, 2008
LONDON -- Lena Headey, Sean Bean and Rupert Friend have signed up to star in director Geoff Sax's supernatural chiller "Black Death" from production banner Ecosse Films.
Set in an apocalyptic medieval world, "Death" details the story of a band of brothers whose quest is to hunt down a necromancer against the backdrop of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England.
Headey stars on the Fox TV series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," while Bean is a familiar face from "The Lord of the Rings" and "National Treasure."
Friend recently wrapped "Young Victoria" alongside Emily Blunt.
Friend will play a young monk sent to investigate rumors of people being brought back to life, while Bean plays a mercenary priest who arrives in the same village. Against the backdrop of the peaceful village lies a pact with the forces of darkness, orchestrated by the village ruler (Headey).
The gothic horror will be produced by Ecosse Films co-chiefs Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae and co-produced by Jens Meurer ("Black Book") of Egoli Tossell. Penned by Dario Poloni, the project is scheduled to shoot on location in Germany and the U.K.
"Dario Poloni's highly original screenplay appealed to me as a fan of the genre," Sax said. "Coupled with its edgy characters, thought-provoking material and kinetic action scenes, it's a very exciting project to be directing."
Sales and financier HanWay Films will unveil the project to buyers at the European Film Market during the Berlin International Film Festival.
"Black Death" marks the fourth collaboration between Ecosse and HanWay, following "Becoming Jane," "Brideshead Revisited" and "Wuthering Heights."

Lena Headey and Sean Bean vs. the Black Death
Not content to battle killer cyborgs from the future, Sarah Connor Chronicles star Lena Headey is set to star in the supernatural horror film “Black Death” for director Geoff Sax. She’ll have company in Sean Bean and Rupert Friend. The movie is set in an “apocalyptic medieval world”, and finds a band of brothers whose quest is to hunt down a necromancer against the backdrop of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England. Sounds pleasant.
